Some Thoughts About GCS Entrance Safeguards

Dear GCS Community Members,

As you know, for your security, we all have individual entry codes and there are cameras in all the public spaces. Across the complex, over years, we have had an extremely tiny number of incidents of theft. Because of the cameras, some of these have actually been resolved with the later return of property without police involvement.

Recently, unfortunately, the person in the attached photo was filmed entering the 56 building by following a tenant, and then walked quickly to the first seemingly valuable package he saw in a hallway, picked it up, and left with it.

While in the grand scheme of things this is a very minor incident, I must remind you to NOT admit complete strangers to the complex. Certainly, if a client is here for a service and can tell you where they are going, you can let them in, but please do not casually admit anyone you do not know without a conversation. We all benefit from some basic caution of this kind.

Also, if you see this fellow again, do not let him in, and please let me know about the sighting (via 917-826-6330) so that I can update our liaison at the 78 precinct. Again, we have had a tiny number of incidents over years, but I feel it it is important to keep track in order to discourage possible “repeat offenders,” which happily has never happened so far. But this is NYC; we all need to stay awake to these kinds of things.
