About:

"The belief driving Matt Logsdon’s artistic process is the more we understand the world the better we can understand ourselves. Learning through making is central to his approach. Materials and methods are repurposed to challenge and expand our understanding of how the world fits together. Because relationships fundamentally shape our beliefs and perceptions, Logsdon is drawn to materials and methods with a personal connection to his family; carpentry and building practices of his uncle and father, objects and lessons shared with his son, and a bond with nature cultivated through generations. Making is an expression of the meaning of these relationships and how they influence the way we organize our experience of the world. The router drawings conflate traditions of drawing, painting and sculpture to something new, defying categorization. Bunny, Cup inverts material hierarchies using throw-away coffee cups to support a bronze casting. Floating Flowers with Corona Borealis repurposes wilderness survival techniques to create a memento for the passing of his mother. The sculpture compresses time, space, and traditional elements of landscape painting; foreground, middleground and background into one object, connecting his son and mother who never met. Matt Logsdon was born in Columbus, Ohio. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York and has an MFA from Hunter College."
